Meet the team

Carshalton Lavender is staffed entirely by volunteers. We have ten member-directors who form our committee. We work together to organise the annual harvest weekend, to maintain the field, to distil our Carshalton Lavender oil, to give talks to local schools and community groups and much more. With the help of many other volunteers we ensure the field is maintained throughout the year - we'd love to meet you if you're interested in volunteering in the field, see get involved for more details.

Who's who?

Alistair Cruickshank has been Chair of Carshalton Lavender since 2004. He has an allotment next to the lavender field so he can keep an eye on the lavender while tending his vegetables. He is heavily involved in encouraging organic gardening and farming and is a trustee of local environmental charity EcoLocal. In a previous life he worked for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

Laurie Rudham is Vice Chair of Carshalton Lavender. You’ll find Laurie at the lavender fields most weekends, but his particular interest is in the oil distillation. Each year, using the traditional processes and our new still, Laurie meticulously distills the lavender oil from the field. He has an electro mechanical background with a smattering of chemistry, gardening and more.

Sarah Mooney is involved with many aspects of our group and oversaw the formation of Carshalton Lavender when BioRegional handed over the project in 2003. She has always worked in the environmental field but mostly from an office. Her allotment is on the same site as our fields and often competes with the lavender for attention...

Diane Bate is Treasurer for Carshalton Lavender, which she joined in 2008. She has more than 10 years post-qualified accounting experience and is a Fellow of the ACCA. Diane enjoys the opportunity to get out in the fields - although she's careful to avoid the bees as she has a fear of being stung!

Victoria Clarke helps out with marketing and publicity. Victoria is a recent recruit having joined the group in 2010. She has been working in marketing since 2003, and has a growing interest in environmental issues. Victoria doesn't have a sense of smell, so although she loves the lavender she misses out on its beautiful aroma!
